2006 AWARDSAWARDSBuilding Design PartnershipKelvingrove New Century Project, Glasgow In this reworking of an old favourite, the City's brief was that 35% more gallery space had to be found to display 50% more objects, without extending the building - this was achieved by converting and extending the former storage areas at lower ground level to provide galleries, catering and education accommodation. This in turn released valuable area on the upper ground and first floors. With subtle insertions of new circulation and painstaking restoration of the existing fabric, this has to be Glasgow's greatest triumph of the year! |
