East End Campus, Haghill Glasgow for John Wheatley College
A major new building of approximately 6000 sq metres on a brownfield site in the Haghill
district with classroom-based teaching, training workshops and administration, hairdressing, restaurant,
library and childcare offer services to the local community.
The judges applauded the sustainable agenda and the collaboration between the client
and the designers on this project which put the 'users' first.
A mix of technologies have achieved a BREEAM 'excellent' rating from the ETFE foil cushion roof over the
social space to the recycling of roof rainwater.
Along with its passionate and committed College Principal, the design team have delivered
an educational establishment which has a clarity and vision, with bright and airy social spaces that allow
a relaxed and confident environment for its students.
The determination and drive of the design team have truly produced a benchmark building for Glasgow.
The judges congratulate the architects on creating a building that will have an impact far
beyond its own site.
