Hazelwood School, Dumbreck, Glasgow for Glasgow City Council
Hazelwood School is an education facility for up to 60 students with multiple disabilities. The students are aged between 3 and 19 and the school provides education from nursery through to secondary stages.
This is a project that is all about the end user and how you can embed a building into a sensitive piece of parkland and make it belong. The judges applauded the sheer passion and commitment of the architects and their clients in the creation of this teaching environment. The buildings wrap themselves around the trees to create an almost seamless environment of inside and out, and with a sensitive eye for material and detail have produced a seminal school for the city.
