2008 AWARDSAwards - EducationElder and Cannon ArchitectsJordanhill School, Glasgow Following a review of existing facilities, Jordanhill School identified the need for additional accommodation and redevelopment of the schools campus. The new teaching block provides 15 classrooms for Maths, Modern Languages and Social Subjects, a large open plan Art Department, as well as new all weather sports facilities. The architect's solution not only reconfigures a disparate series of buildings by creating a new courtyard, but reinforces the way the school wishes to teach across age groups. With their usual flair, Elder + Cannon have managed to deliver a legible building which resolves and belies the complex relationships in the brief. The judges applauded the architect's ability to create a rational, civic and elegant solution which provides a stimulating focus for learning. |
