2008 AWARDSAwards - Office/Commercial + IndustrialPage\ParkAndrew Carnegie House, Dunfermline Designed as a pavilion on the edge of Pittencrieff Park, the new headquarters building for all three Carnegie Trusts (UK Trust, Universities Trust and combined Dunfermline and Hero Fund Trust) recognises both the scale of the urban street and the natural setting of the park. The two storey building houses communal functions at ground level with a boardroom and gallery at the first floor whilst the offices are defined by a low zinc roof. The two volumes are fused at the entry to the building and create dramatic circulation spaces. The judges encountered this delightful building on a very dreich day in Dunfermline. The occupants clearly participated in and loved the craft of the building, and acknowledged how the architects through their concept had managed to positively bring together three organizations which had never worked together before into a unified whole. |
