NEWS & EVENTSThe Holmes Award - 3rd Year Student Best DesignThe Glasgow Institute of Architects and Holmes are pleased to announce the 'Holmes Award', a new £500.00 annual award for 3rd year students of architecture. The Holmes Award is a new annual £500.00 prize open to 3rd year students from the Strathclyde and Mackintosh schools of architecture. The award, supported by architects Holmes, has been introduced by the GIA as part of its commitment to strengthening the links between the two schools and professional practice. The award will be presented to one student selected from the GIA Annual Student Awards 3rd year category winners from each school. The winner of the Holmes Award will receive a certificate and cheque for £500.00. Martin McKay, GIA President said: 'The GIA Student Awards are an important means of acknowledging the talent that continues to emerge from Glasgow's two schools of architecture. We are delighted to introduce the new Holmes Award which offers a new level of practice-focused peer recognition.' Holmes partner Sandy McMillan said: 'Holmes is delighted to support the GIA Awards through the introduction of this new award and to reward the consistently excellent work of Part 3 students from the Mac and Strathclyde University. Our involvement is a reflection of the importance the practice continues to place on the nurturing and development of talented architecture students.' The 2009 GIA Student Awards will be presented at the House for an Art Lover, Bellahouston Park, on Thursday 15th October.
